Selank

Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide analogue of tuftsin, an endogenous immunomodulatory peptide drawn from the Fc region of immunoglobulin G. Developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Russia, it has been studied at length for anxiolytic activity, modulation of the GABA system, and effects on immune function. It is often examined alongside Semax, and the two divide the ground neatly: where Semax work concentrates on cognition and BDNF, Selank research turns toward anxiety reduction, regulation of the stress response, and GABAergic neurotransmission. Selank has been registered in Russia as a treatment for generalised anxiety disorder. Investigations have covered its influence on serotonin and norepinephrine metabolism, its effect on interleukin expression, and its role in slowing enkephalin degradation. That combination of anxiolytic and immunomodulatory activity in a single molecule is unusual, and studies have documented its action on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis together with its capacity to stabilise enkephalins in blood serum, a mechanism that feeds directly into its anxiolytic profile.
